This is the second round of the qualifying group stage. Therefore, it comes just five days after the opening fixture away to Ivory Coast.

How do the Black Stars arrive after Ivory Coast?

However, the result gives Ghana a clear target. A home game is the natural place to respond. Besides that, the squad has had a few more days together in Accra, where the camp opened on 21 September.

Who could feature for Ghana?

Carlos Queiroz named a 24-man squad for the qualifiers and the Morocco friendly. The GFA then added nine players after what it described as medical uncertainties. The additions were Jonas Adjetey, Alidu Seidu, Ebenezer Annan, Rockson Yeboah, Rahim Ibrahim, Brandon Thomas-Asante, Mohammed Fuseini, Benjamin Tetteh and Felix Afena-Gyan, as listed in the GFA’s squad update.

In addition, the original squad included Mohammed Kudus, Nathaniel Adjei, Ibrahim Osman, Ibrahim Sulemana, Jan Gyamerah and Ronald Donkor, among others. As a result, Queiroz has options in every line. He has not announced a team for the Gambia game, so any line-up is unconfirmed until match day. What is at stake in the group?

Every qualifying point counts in a six-match group. After Gambia, Ghana face Somalia in November, then Ivory Coast and Gambia again in March 2027. Consequently, a home result on 29 September shapes the rest of the campaign.
