Start with form. Look at the last five results for each side, and separate home form from away form. Next, check team news, because a missing striker or goalkeeper changes a game.
Then look at the context. For example, a side chasing a title may play differently from one that is safe. Finally, compare the view in the preview with your own. If you disagree, your own research comes first.

What should a good preview include?
A useful preview names its evidence. First, it should give recent results and say where they come from. Second, it should mention injuries, suspensions and likely line-ups, with the date they were checked. Third, it should explain the risks of the view, not only the upside.
In addition, a good preview separates fact from opinion. For example, “the club has not won away this season” is a fact you can check, while “the club will struggle” is an opinion. Because both appear in most previews, learn to tell them apart.
